Finland, 1960s
SOLD: 900,000 ISK

The “Tupa” collection, designed by Finnish designer Reino Ruokolainen in the 1960s, exemplifies the minimalist and functional ethos of Scandinavian midcentury modern design. Produced by Haimi, a Finnish furniture manufacturer, the Tupa series includes armchairs, sofas, and complementary pieces like coffee tables and ottomans. The Tupa furniture is characterised by its clean lines, restrained proportions, and the use of natural materials. The original armchairs and sofas feature exposed wooden frames, crafted from oak or beech, with fixed cushions upholstered in neutral-toned fabrics such as canvas or wool. The construction emphasises craftsmanship, with visible joints and a sturdy, yet elegant, form.

The sofa is with teak frame with later reinforcements. The armchair is with stained oak. The upholstery is later but in-keeping Lauritzon Diamond fabric.
