About

At WERD Studio, we believe in a simple truth:
good design enriches life

Timelessness — true design transcends trends with honesty and clarity.
Craftsmanship — integrity of materials and the maker’s hand define quality.
Sustainability — lasting value comes from repairability, care, and respect for what already exists.

Our work expresses these principles in two ways:

    1. Supplying exceptional Mid-Century Modern furniture, art, and fittings to the Icelandic market.
    2. Offering expert design consultancy, applying our design philosophy to diverse creative projects.

At WERD, good design is not just what we practice — it’s who we are.

A Personal Note

I’m Drew, the founder of WERD Studio.

At WERD Studio, we believe furniture is more than functional — it’s a vessel of memory and meaning. Every piece we source carries a story, and our role is to honour that history while helping it find new life. Our focus is on authentic furniture, art, and objects of enduring quality — pieces that embody craftsmanship, soul, and sustainability.

WERD is the culmination of my values, my background as an architect, and a lifelong passion for good design. For over 15 years, I worked at Thomas Croft Architects in London, on projects ranging from rustic barns and city homes to galleries and creative offices. I had the privilege of designing for clients such as Paul McCartney and Richard Curtis, often at the intersection of historic renovation and contemporary design. Collaborating with suppliers and craftspeople at the forefront of their fields set my bar high for quality — and some projects even went on to receive award recognition. Later, my journey took me to Iceland, where I worked with the award-winning Hjark Studio and, more recently, London-based Studio Noam on exceptional residential projects in East Iceland.

These experiences reinforced a belief that good design should be thoughtful, lasting, and rooted in respect for materials and craft. In a world dominated by fast fashion, digital overload, and disposable culture, I see WERD as an alternative: a studio that reinvests in what already exists, preserving and restoring pieces with history and character.

That ethos is also deeply personal. I grew up in South Manchester in a family shaped by postwar resourcefulness — where repair, reuse, and hard work were second nature. Childhood weekends often meant antique markets with my parents, tinkering with bikes alongside my grandad, or watching my mum and dad bring old things back to life, whether through craft or woodworking. Those early experiences instilled a respect for making, mending, and finding beauty in the everyday — values that still guide me today.

My academic path deepened that foundation. At Sheffield University, I earned a Master’s degree in Architecture, writing a dissertation on L’Avventura, an Italian Modernist film. Modernism resonated with me not just as a style but as a philosophy of living — optimistic, functional, and enduring. That spirit continues to shape WERD: a belief that design should not only look good but also serve people and the planet with integrity.

At WERD, we choose to source, preserve, and restore pieces with history and soul. By cherishing furniture that already exists, we reduce waste, conserve resources, and embrace a more sustainable way of living. This is more than a business — it’s a philosophy: to bring beauty, authenticity, and responsibility into the spaces we inhabit.

WERD exists to prove that the future of design lies in what already exists. Every piece we offer is an invitation to live more thoughtfully — to embrace craftsmanship, honour history, and create spaces that endure.
