Colditz Porcelain, Milk Jug

Colditz Porcelain, Milk Jug

East Germany,

mid–20th century

Glazed porcelain

A charming milk jug produced by Colditz Porzellan, one of East Germany’s largest porcelain manufacturers, active throughout the 20th century. The jug is crafted in white glazed porcelain with a softly rounded body, a pronounced spout, and a loop handle. Vertical ribbing along the body lends subtle texture and refinement. The decoration features a geometric fan motif of fine vertical lines in red and dark violet, converging into a V-shape on both sides of the jug — a typical mid-century modern design element that balances simplicity with graphic detail.

Colditz porcelain was widely produced in East Germany and exported across Europe. While utilitarian in nature, pieces often carried modernist decorations in keeping with contemporary design trends of the 1950s–1970s. This milk jug exemplifies that tradition, uniting functional tableware with subtle decorative elegance.
