The “Elisabeth” series from Rörstrand is a classic example of late 1960s Scandinavian ceramic design, combining functionality with timeless decorative appeal. Introduced in 1969, the line was produced in a wide range of tableware pieces, including cups, saucers, plates, bowls, and serving dishes. The service is characterized by its rich cobalt-blue glaze paired with hand-painted floral motifs in darker tones of blue and sometimes brown or black. The floral decoration, stylized yet naturalistic, reflects the era’s taste for bold, expressive ornament balanced with simple modern forms.
Rörstrand, one of Sweden’s most important porcelain and stoneware manufacturers (founded in 1726), became internationally recognised in the mid-20th century for its collaborations with leading designers. The Elisabeth pattern embodies the brand’s philosophy of creating tableware that is both decorative and practical, suitable for modern living.
