A versatile “Krobo” bench, designed by Norwegian designer Torbjørn Afdal and produced by Bruksbo Tegnekontor in the 1960s. The bench is constructed in solid rosewood, with a long rectangular top supported by straight legs set flush at the corners. Its understated, architectural form reflects Afdal’s functionalist approach, allowing it to serve both as a bench and a low table. What makes the Krobo especially distinctive is its modular concept: it was designed to accommodate a range of accessories such as storage boxes, trays, and cushions, enabling the piece to adapt easily to different living environments. This multi functionality, combined with its minimalist elegance, has made it one of Afdal’s most celebrated designs.

The Krobo bench embodies the spirit of Scandinavian modern design—simplicity, adaptability, and timelessness. It remains one of Afdal’s best-known works and continues to be produced in updated versions due to enduring demand. Vintage examples, especially in rosewood, are highly collectible and sought after by mid-century design enthusiasts.
