A pair of ‘Sirocco’ safari armchairs, designed by Arne Norell in 1964 and produced by his own workshop, Arne Norell AB, Sweden, together with a matching table top. The Sirocco is one of Norell’s most celebrated designs, reflecting his admiration for British campaign furniture while infusing it with the elegance of Scandinavian modernism. Solid oak constructed in a knock-down method with no glue or screws, held together by tension and leather fittings. Original brown saddle leather slings with lighter stitching. Wide arm straps, buckled attachments and removable, button-tufted seat cushion. Light, portable, and functional, yet luxurious in material and proportion. The matching wooden top, designed to rest across the armrests of the chairs, converting them into a compact occasional table when paired together. Retains makers label.
The Sirocco chair exemplifies Norell’s ability to reinterpret traditional forms for a modern audience, combining functionality, comfort, and refined materials. Introduced in 1964, it quickly became a design classic and remains one of the best-known examples of Swedish mid-century safari seating. The inclusion of the table top enhances the versatility of the set, underscoring Norell’s focus on adaptable living environments.
Seat height 36cm | height 72cm | Tabletop that mounts between the armchairs 45 x 65 cm.
