A rare “Pompadour” armchair, designed by Olof Ottelin in the 1950s and produced by Oy Stockmann Ab, Helsinki. This elegant lounge chair exemplifies Ottelin’s refined mid-century aesthetic, combining sculptural form, comfort, and modernist restraint. The design features a generously curved backrest, slightly winged at the sides, flowing seamlessly into rounded armrests. The seat is deep and inviting, raised on tapering wooden legs that provide a light, balanced stance. Solid wood construction, stained finish refurbished in Hetton Sandpiper 7986/07.
Olof Ottelin (1917–1971) was a Finnish architect and designer, known for his work with Stockmann’s furniture department, where he created sophisticated, modern designs that merged Nordic craftsmanship with international modernist influences. The Pompadour armchair is one of his most recognisable creations, embodying the optimism and elegance of postwar Scandinavian design.
