Arabia of Finland is one of Scandinavia’s most renowned ceramics manufacturers, celebrated for its artistry, craftsmanship, and contribution to 20th-century design. Founded in 1873 as a subsidiary of the Swedish ceramics company Rörstrand, Arabia quickly established itself as a leader in tableware, decorative objects, and art ceramics. Throughout its history, Arabia has been synonymous with functional beauty and innovative design, merging everyday utility with artistic expression. The company became a cornerstone of Finnish modernism, and its products remain beloved worldwide.

Arabia’s output ranges from elegant hand-painted porcelain of the early 20th century to bold mid-century modern forms. In the 1950s–70s, the company gained international recognition for its modern stoneware and graphic surface patterns. Some of Finland’s most influential ceramic artists and designers worked at Arabia, including Kaj Franck, Birger Kaipiainen, Ulla Procopé, Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist, and Esteri Tomula. Their work shaped not only Arabia’s identity but also Finnish design as a whole. Arabia’s Helsinki factory became an important cultural institution, employing both industrial designers and studio artists. Alongside mass-produced wares, the Arabia Art Department Studio created unique, hand-crafted works. Characterised by clean lines, natural forms, and vibrant decoration, Arabia’s ceramics embody the Nordic ethos of practicality paired with artistry. Arabia’s designs are now considered classics of Scandinavian design, collected in museums worldwide and cherished in homes across, generations. Vintage Arabia tableware remains highly sought after.
