‘Dekor Rolf’ by Figgjo (Figgjo Flint)

Designed and produced early 1970s

Norway

The ‘Dekor Rolf’ is not a single product line—it’s a label used for decorative designs created by the designer Rolf Frøyland – “Dekor” meaning decoration and “Rolf” the designer’s first name.  So “Dekor Rolf” means: the shape/form of the plate or cup may be generic or shared but the surface pattern/design was created by Frøyland.  Rolf Frøyland worked at Figgjo for 30+ years as a decorator/designer.  He specialised in: surface patterns (floral, geometric, abstract) and custom designs for hotels, institutions, and special commissions.  He was part of a key generation of designers who shaped Norwegian mid-century ceramics.

Some known patterns by Frøyland include:

Vinje (early 1970s, minimalist earthy tones)

Safran (1970s, warmer tones, bold borders)

Anitra (1970s floral motifs) (Epla)

Ny Frukt (late 1950s fruit-themed design)

Though designed for daily use, not just display – these pieces are immaculate – probably never been used.
